NCT Alliance Kicks Off 'Road to NCT' Junior Badminton Championship

Driven by the mindset that excellence in sports can positively impact the development of Malaysian youth beyond the court, NCT Alliance Berhad (NCT Alliance) recently launched the 'Road to NCT' Junior Badminton Championship in partnership with Petaling Badminton Club (Petaling BC). The championship represents a significant step in the company's ongoing commitment to unleash the potential of young, aspiring athletes, while igniting a deeper passion for sports among youth. NCT believes sports can serve as a catalyst to enhance personal development and change lives in local communities.

Set to be one of the most anticipated junior badminton events in recent years with an expected participation of over 5000 youth between the ages of 9 and 15 the tournament kicked off in Melaka on 19 January and will traverse through five states, namely Melaka, Pahang, Selangor, Sabah, Pulau Pinang and Kuala Lumpur. The exciting grand finale will be held in Selangor on 30 May until 2 June.

The tournament will feature a series of matches across various categories, including singles and doubles. Adding to the excitement, NCT Alliance’s Brand Ambassadors and national badminton players Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun will make a surprise appearance at selected tournament locations.

Dato' Sri Yap Ngan Choy, Group Managing Director of NCT Alliance, emphasised the company's involvement in sports aims to foster camaraderie and unity among the younger generation through an empowering and friendly tournament.

He said, "Excelling in sports can have a tremendous impact on our youth. More than developing one’s skills in the game itself, it can help cultivate mental and physical resilience, which should be instilled from a young age. As a homegrown developer, we do not merely want to build physical structures but also support the development of people and communities, and build better lives. The Road to NCT marks the start of what we hope will be a long and fruitful journey of enabling growth of talent, as well as greater social well-being and inclusivity for all Malaysians.”

Dato' Sri Yap added, “It was a great start to the tournament seeing these young players give their all as they compete against their peers and pick up lessons along the way to grow both as athletes and individuals.”

The grand finale will see top performers from each state competing for the championship title.

All prizes are sponsored by NCT, with several once-in-a-lifetime rewards awaiting the winning players. Chosen finalists will stand a chance to win an all-inclusive trip to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris later this year. In addition, selected aspiring players will undergo training with Petaling BC, further elevating the stakes.
