Samsung's recent release of new foldable phones has certainly caught the attention of tech enthusiasts, with the Galaxy Z Flip 5 stealing the spotlight.

Here is our first impression towards the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

The Design

This time, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 retains the familiar aesthetics of its predecessors, with a few noteworthy improvements that enhance both its durability and user experience.  One of the notable design updates is the slimmer profile when the phone is folded. Thanks to a redesigned hinge mechanism, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 manages to reduce its thickness by 2mm when folded compared to its predecessors. This enhancement contributes to a more seamless and polished look when the phone is closed, enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.

It's worth noting that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 retains its waterproof feature, which adds an extra layer of protection against the elements. And for weight wise, it retains the same weight (187g) despite of the bigger screen.

The Display

The biggest change for the Samsung Z Flip 5 is definitely the external display. Beneath the protective glass cover, you'll find a larger 3.4-inch screen that enhances both functionality and visual appeal. This external screen serves as a convenient display for notifications, incoming calls, and other quick interactions without having to fully unfold the device.

Moving on to the main display, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 retains the impressive 6.7-inch folding screen found in its predecessor. This interior screen boasts vibrant colors and smooth motion, creating an immersive visual experience for various activities such as browsing, watching videos, or using apps.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 continues to offer a familiar layout and button configuration, maintaining the user-friendly design that was introduced in its predecessor, the Z Flip 4. The inclusion of essential features like the fingerprint scanner and volume buttons ensures a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Hardware & Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 brings about iterative improvements in terms of its hardware and performance, showcasing enhancements that stem from the utilization of Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon technology. At the core of this device is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset,it plays a pivotal role in delivering improved efficiency and overall performance.

Accompanying the Snapdragon processor is a substantial 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM, showcasing Samsung's commitment to ensuring seamless multitasking and efficient app performance. Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 presents a refinement in its storage options. Notably, the 128GB storage variant has been omitted from the lineup, leaving users with a choice between 256GB and 512GB storage capacities.

The Camera

The camera setup on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is reminiscent of its predecessor, the Z Flip 4. The primary camera boasts a 12-megapixel sensor, similar to the previous model, and is accompanied by an additional lens for capturing wide-angle shots.

A noteworthy change in the specifications of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the adjustment in aperture for the front-facing camera. Additionally, a significant enhancement comes in the form of a larger exterior display on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 allowing easier photography and selfie.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 resembles a typical Samsung smartphone in many aspects in terms of software. However, there are a couple of distinctive features that set it apart and enhance its usability. One of these features is Flex mode, which activates when you fold the Z Flip 5 in an upright position. This mode provides a unique user experience by utilizing the foldable design to divide the screen into two sections, allowing for different types of interactions and multitasking scenarios.

The exterior display of the Z Flip 5 also offers some additional functionalities. It can serve as a camera viewfinder, enabling users to frame their shots and take photos without needing to unfold the device. In terms of software updates, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 aligns with Samsung's commitment to providing extended support to its devices which is  four years of OS updates on offer and five years of security updates.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 retains the same battery capacity as its predecessor, offering a sizable 4700mAh battery. This provides users with ample power to keep their device running throughout the day. The option for both regular and wireless charging further enhances the convenience and flexibility of charging the device.
