Collectors Court Celebrates The Trading Card Game Community At Summit USJ

 Trading card conventions have experienced tremendous growth in recent years, evolving from casual community gatherings into large-scale trade shows where vendors can expect to flip a single card for thousands of dollars. While this rapid expansion has brought excitement and opportunities to the hobby, many enthusiasts still miss the more relaxed, community-driven atmosphere of those early events.

Collectors Court, held on 6–7 June at Summit USJ Shopping Mall, set out to recapture that spirit by scaling back the high stakes in favour of a more welcoming and laid-back experience. Despite its intimate setting, the event delivered a weekend packed with activities and attractions for collectors, players, and hobbyists alike.







Visitors were encouraged to participate in learn-to-play sessions, with friendly trainers on hand to introduce them to games such as Cardfight!! Vanguard, Palworld OCG, Magic: The Gathering, and more. Popular content creators Pudds and WinniMiao also made appearances throughout the weekend, inspiring attendees to explore Pokémon TCG and Riftbound respectively; while local board game store Quantum Nexus Kuala Lumpur offered a free miniature painting session for all attendees.

The event placed a strong emphasis on supporting and empowering female players, featuring a dedicated Women's Magic: The Gathering Learn-to-Play Session and a Women's TCG Play Zone, hosted by local women's gaming collective The Mana Coven. Both seasoned trading card game enthusiasts and curious newcomers could be seen enthusiastically trying out the various titles on display.

Board game enthusiasts were not left out of the fun. Vendors like Swan Panasia Boardgames, Meja Belakang, and nPips Games showcased a diverse range of board games for sale, spanning both internationally published titles and locally designed creations. Malaysia Boardgame Design also hosted a playtesting session for participants of the Design and Play board game design competition, giving aspiring designers the opportunity to gather valuable feedback on their entries.

For those seeking a competitive challenge, Collectors Court hosted several tournaments with exciting prizes up for grabs, including a Pokémon Open Tournament, Riftbound Women's Tournament, and a Pokémon Women's Tournament, the latter of which was organised in partnership with Owlbear Eyrie. Winners walked away with prizes ranging from booster packs and playmats, to a Pokémon Ascended Heroes Elite Trainer Box valued at over RM1,000.

Those looking to take home a unique keepsake from the event could browse artist booths operated by local creators Absolute Yana and ChibiCoffeeMao, both of whom offered a selection of Pokémon TCG-inspired artwork and merchandise. Meanwhile, artist Minteaya hosted a card-painting booth where visitors could commission one-of-a-kind designs painted directly onto their own trading cards.

The event concluded on Sunday evening with a lucky draw session. Two runners-up received One Piece booster packs sponsored by local trading card community app KadHunt, while the grand prize winner took home a Pokémon Ascended Heroes Booster Bundle worth more than RM400. It was an exciting finale that perfectly capped off two days of activities at Collectors Court.
