Bleeding Gums Are Not Normal: SYSTEMA Calls for Greater: “Expert Care, Every Day” campaign highlights the silent signs of gum problems and the need for expert-backed daily care

In conjunction with World Gum Health Day 2026, SYSTEMA is encouraging Malaysians to take a closer look at an often-overlooked aspect of oral care—gum health.

While daily brushing remains a common habit, many still associate oral hygiene primarily with teeth, overlooking the critical role gums play in maintaining long-term oral wellness.

Shifting the Focus Beyond Teeth

At the centre of SYSTEMA’s campaign, “Expert Care, Every Day,” is a simple but important message: effective oral care is not about doing more, but about making better, more informed choices.

Gum health, often neglected, forms the foundation of a healthy mouth. Without proper care, gum issues can develop quietly—sometimes going unnoticed until they become more serious.

“We’ve observed that many Malaysians prioritise clean teeth, but often underestimate the importance of gum health,” said Tomotaka Oka, Managing Director of Southern Lion Sdn Bhd. “Our goal is to empower individuals to take better control of their gum health through prevention and expert-backed daily care.”

Understanding the Silent Signs

One of the key challenges in gum care is awareness.

Unlike visible dental concerns, gum issues often develop silently. Early signs such as bleeding gums are frequently misunderstood, when in reality they may indicate inflammation caused by bacteria along the gumline.

Dental professional Dr. Arif Aizudin highlights the importance of early recognition. “A healthy smile starts with healthy gums. Bleeding gums are not normal and may signal underlying issues. Early intervention and proper care are essential for long-term oral health,” he explained.

The Role of Targeted Care

SYSTEMA’s campaign also emphasises the importance of using products specifically designed for gum protection.

Unlike standard toothpaste, gum care formulas are developed to target bacteria at the gumline, helping to reduce irritation and support overall gum health. Combined with the right brushing techniques, these solutions can significantly improve daily oral care effectiveness.

Innovations such as SlimTech™ toothbrush technology, featuring a slimmer head, flexible neck, and finer bristles, are designed to reach deeper into hard-to-clean areas—particularly along the gumline and at the back of teeth.

Turning Awareness Into Action

To bring the message closer to the public, SYSTEMA is hosting a series of interactive roadshows in Kuala Lumpur, offering educational experiences and practical insights into gum care.

Visitors can take part in complimentary gum health assessments, conducted in collaboration with dental professionals, providing a more personalised understanding of their oral health.

The campaign is further supported by a digital content series, featuring expert insights aimed at dispelling common misconceptions and encouraging better daily habits.

A More Holistic Approach to Oral Health

Beyond on-ground activations, SYSTEMA is also introducing an updated gum health portal, allowing users to assess their condition and access practical tips for improving their routine.

The initiative reflects a broader shift in how oral care is approached—moving away from a purely teeth-focused mindset towards a more holistic understanding of oral health.

Verdict: Small Changes, Lasting Impact

SYSTEMA’s “Expert Care, Every Day” campaign highlights a simple truth: healthy gums are essential to overall wellbeing.

By encouraging awareness, promoting early intervention, and providing accessible tools, the campaign aims to help Malaysians build better habits—one small step at a time.

Because lasting oral health doesn’t start with perfection—it starts with understanding what truly matters.
