Samsung Inspires Malaysian Young Talent to Reimagine Foldable Experiences Through Innovation

Samsung Malaysia Electronics is engaging Gen Z in reimagining foldable app experiences for Malaysians through its collaboration with top local universities. To bring this to life, Samsung is organising a Developer Day hackathon where students will pitch ideas to enrich app UI/UX on the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, and ultimately mainstream foldable smartphones in Malaysia.

“At Samsung, we are passionate about bringing relevant mobile innovation to consumers, so it made sense for us to get Gen Z involved in creating new ideas and experiences for the Galaxy Z that are relatable to them. This is also in line with our ESG mission to empower young Malaysian talent to make waves in the tech space. We look forward to inspiring ideas with potential to bring them to market,” said KM Liew, Vice President & Head of Mobile eXperience, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The Developer Day hackathon, which will take place on 14-15 June 2023, will enable students to leverage Samsung and Android platform’s capabilities to flex tech creativity, as well as pitch their application in the real world and benefits to users. 3 winning teams will be selected each day across the 2 days, bringing it to a total of 6 winning teams. The winners get to bring home Samsung products worth up to RM39,188 each day.

The hackathon is one of the many activities during Samsung’s Galaxy Space, a Gen Z-inspired experiential event that is open to the public. The hackathon is organised in collaboration with Taylor’s University and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

This comes on the back of Samsung’s recent event, ‘Reimagining Foldables for Malaysians’, where the company collaborated with top local organisations to showcase the optimisation of local apps that Malaysians use on a daily basis, in bringing it closer to their hearts.
